The Maine State Police offers a unique internship opportunity to those interested in pursuing a career in Maine Law Enforcement. Selected applicants will take part in a "front line" internship with Troopers as they perform their day to day duties. Interns will experience many areas of the Maine State Police including, but not limited to, Rural Patrol, Major Crimes Unit, Training, Maine Information and Analysis Center (MIAC), Specialties and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement. The Maine State Police internship program provides an excellent opportunity for students to learn and serve through first-hand participation in law enforcement or related careers in criminal justice.
Applicants are required to have maintained a 2.5 GPA and to have completed 24 credit hours of course work at the time application for this program is submitted.
Applicants will be required to have a background investigation and records check completed.

Although providing the information requested is voluntary, failure to provide complete answers may affect the review and consideration of your application. Your completed application will be carefully reviewed and considered. Should a position be available, you will be contacted by the Internship Coordinator to schedule an interview.
Please note that all internships are unpaid and subject to availability. Final selection will be based on Bureau needs.

- Current Resume
- An Unofficial Transcript
- Letter of Referral from your School Adviser
- A copy of a photo ID
The deadlines for returning a completed application and all accompanying materials to the Maine of State Police are as follows:
- Spring Semester (January – April) Application deadline November 1st of previous year;
Application accepted between October 1 – November 1st
- Summer Semester (May – August) Application deadline March 1st;
Application accepted between February 1 – and March 1st
- Fall Semester (September – December) Application deadline July 1st

Awarding academic credit for an internship is at the discretion of your college or university. However, we will assist you in providing appropriate information as requested by your school. Arrangements for credit should be made before you begin the internship.
