  • Hampden Death Investigation

    Maine State Police and Hampden Police are conducting a death investigation this morning .  An elderly woman was found dead at her home on the Kennebec Road.  The woman’s husband, was found unresponsive and taken by ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center, as detectives investigate the circumstances.  

  • Howland Road Closure

    Howland Motorists are advised that 517 Lagrange Road in Howland (located few miles west of I95 ramps in Howland), is totally blocked by log truck rolled over.  Units on scene and wreckers and cranes en route, but road will be closed for some time.

    All traffic from the west (Lagrange) is being rerouted on to the Bunker Hill Road from the Lagrange Road (Rt 155) then to Relocation Road to come out above the accident near I95.  Traffic from Howland end is being pushed on to Relocation Road to Bunker Hill Road.

    Brief Synopsis:  Trooper Pyburn was driving west on Route 2 in Gilead, when he observed a vehicle approaching him from behind at an extremely high rate of speed. Trooper Pyburn locked the vehicle at 90mph in a posted 50mph zone. During the ensuing traffic stop, Trooper Pyburn detected signs of impairment from the operator, Jacob McGurn of Gilead. McGurn was put through SFSTs, and subsequently taken to the Bethel Substation where an Intox test was performed. McGurn was transported to the Oxford County Jail, where he was charged with Driving to Endanger, Criminal Speed, and OUI.

    Brief Synopsis:  Trooper Pyburn responded to 1098 Norway Road in the town of Waterford, after Oxford RCC dispatched units to that residence for an open line 911 call, believed to be an active domestic. Trooper Pyburn arrived on scene first and noted substantial damage to the inside of the residence. A female was heard inside crying, and a male subject yelling. Upon announcing his presence, Trooper Pyburn was confronted by a male subject, later identified as Shawn Estabrook of Waterford. Estabrook fled from Trooper Pyburn, attempting to barricade himself inside an upstairs bedroom. Trooper Pyburn was able to force the door open, and placed Estabrook into custody after displaying a Taser. Deputy George arrived on scene and began investigating the DV incident. Trooper Pyburn transported Estabrook to the Oxford County Jail, where he was charged with Failure to Submit to Arrest and VCR.

    Brief Synopsis: On 01/01/19, Tr. Willard was travelling north on I95 at 78 north in lane 2 at approximately 0130 hours.  Tr. Willard observed a vehicle with only its daylight running lights on operating south in lane one of the north bound lane.  Traffic was very light, so Tr. Willard turned around and intercepted and stopped the vehicle.  The vehicle pulled off into the median.  The operator, Brandon Burnham of Sabattus was heavily intoxicated. Tr. Davis and Tr. Rec. Lemieux responded and assisted. Shortly after, Troopers were informed that the suspects’ vehicle had just been involved in a hit-and-run pedestrian crash on Lisbon Street in Lewiston. Burnham was transported to Lewiston PD and subsequently the Androscoggin County Jail.  He was charged with OUI – refusal, Driving to Endanger, Failing to report accident by quickest means and leaving the scene of a personal injury crash.

    Brief Synopsis:  Tr. James stopped Kam Leung (58) of Portland on I295 for an unsecured load of snow on his vehicle’s roof and an expired registration. Upon making contact it was confirmed Leung’s right to drive in Maine had been suspended; however, he did hold a valid CT license. Leung was charged with Operating without a License and Violating Conditions of Release. He was released from the scene and his vehicle was towed.

    Brief Synopsis:  Tr. James stopped Charles Deon (29) of Auburn on Route 1 in Freeport for failure to display an inspection sticker. It was also determined Deon’s license was suspended. He was charged accordingly on both and released.

    Brief Synopsis: On 12/31/19, Tr. Willard and Tr. Rec. Lemieux attempted to stop a vehicle operated by David Burns for running through a red light.  After Tr. Rec. Lemieux activated his lights and siren the vehicle continued through Bartlett Street and Pine Street for about .2 of  mile at approximately 30 mph.  The vehicle finally pulled into the driveway of 182 Pine Street.  Tr. Rec. Lemieux and Tr. Willard conducted a high risk stop and ultimately arrested and charged BURNS for Failing to Stop for Police and OAS.

    Brief Synopsis:  While monitoring traffic along Rte. 26,  Tr. Wing overheard Oxford RCC dispatching a Deputy to an erratic operation complaint traveling south from Woodstock.   Tr. Wing observed the truck and followed it, eventually conducting a traffic stop for the operation.  Contact was made with the operator and it was determined he was most likely impaired.  SFST’s were administered and the operator was arrested for OUI ALCOHOL.

    Brief Synopsis:  Tr. James received a traffic complaint regarding a yellow SUV being all over the road. Tr. James was able to locate the vehicle and observed erratic operation. SFST were conducted on the driver, Donovan Gaston (64) of Kingfield. Gaston was arrested and transported to Topsham PD for a breathalyzer. Gaston was charged with Operating Under the Influence.

    Brief Synopsis:  Tr. James attempted to stop a white Ram pick-up for a vehicle defect on I295 in Topsham. The vehicle did not stop and got off exit 31 into Topsham and headed west on Route 196. The vehicle was determined to belong to an Alex Thibeault (24) of Lisbon. Troopers Wing & Willard helped track down the truck several hours later. Alex’s brother, Adam Thibeault (25), admitted to driving and stated he did not know there was a trooper behind him attempting to pull him over. Adam was arrested for Failing to Stop and the truck was also towed.

    Brief Synopsis: On 01/09/2020 Tr. Nadeau responded to 1053 Route 106 in Leeds to check on a wanted subject. Tr. Nadeau was able to make contact with Charles Vanvlack (78), in his residence. Charles had an arrest warrant with 10 counts of felony Class C POSSESS SEXUALLY EXPLICIT MATERIAL OF MINOR UNDER 12. Tr. Nadeau arrested Charles and transported him to ACJ without incident.

Randall also had three (3) sets of bail conditions of which he was in violation and he was charged with VIOLATING CONDITION OF RELEASE.

    Brief Synopsis:  While conducting focused enforcement efforts in the Southern Oxford County area, Troopers made contact with Robert Johnson, at his residence on Lords Hill Road in Denmark. Johnson was wanted on three separate warrants, for unpaid fines totaling almost $2500. Trooper Pyburn placed Johnson into custody with incident and transported him to the Oxford County Jail.

    Brief Synopsis:  Trooper Pyburn responded to assist the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office with a motor vehicle pursuit on Bolsters Mills Road, in the town of Otisfield. Deputies had attempted to stop Zachary Mercier, after making contact with him at a gas station Raymond. Mercier was known to have two active warrants and was believed to be under the influence of narcotics. Trooper Pyburn coordinated with other responding units, deploying a spike mat south of the Bolsters Mills General Store. Mercier struck the mat at approximately 80mph, deflating three tires. A short distance later, he failed to negotiate a tight turn, striking the Bolsters Mills General Store. Mercier attempted to flee on foot, but Trooper Pyburn and the Deputies were able to take him into custody after a brief struggle, during which, a Taser was deployed. Mercier was transported to Stephens Memorial Hospital, and is being charged with criminal speed, eluding an officer, operating after suspension, VCR, and failure to submit to arrest.

    Brief Synopsis: Sgt. Hanson was flagged down by a citizen who reported an unknown subject had pulled into his driveway and while turning around got stuck and he appeared intoxicated.  The 56yr old male operator from New York was found to be heavily intoxicated and was arrested for OUI.  The subject refused an intox and was transported to the jail.

    Brief Synopsis:  Tr. Flanagan stopped a vehicle for numerous traffic violations just off I-295 in Portland.  During the course of his investigation, Tr. Flanagan discovered that the passenger was providing numerous false names and dates of birth.  While attempting to identify this subject, he took off on foot and ran down Washington Avenue toward Congress Street.  Tr. Flanagan chased the subject on foot and apprehended him after running through an alley way, several yards and over a fence.  The male subject was identified and transported to the Cumberland County Jail where he was charged with Failure to provided correct name and date of birth (Class E), Failing to submit to arrest/detention (Class E) and Trafficking in prison contraband (Class C).

    Brief Synopsis:  Tr. Flanagan received information from Mass State Police that a vehicle bearing Maine plates was spotted in a known drug neighborhood and was possibly headed back to the Bowdoinham area.  Tr. Flanagan stopped this vehicle just off I-295 in Portland shortly after and made contact with the two males subjects of Bowdoinham.  After interviewing the subjects and conducting an investigation, he seized the vehicle and brought the subjects down to the Troop G barracks.  A search warrant for the vehicle and subjects was conducted.  Tr. Flanagan and Tr. Wing found roughly 44 grams of Heroin and 11 grams of Cocaine on the two subjects.  A subsequent search of the vehicle was conducted the following day where Troopers found more heroin and cocaine, along with a loaded handgun. The subjects were charged with Aggravated Trafficking Schedule W drugs (Class B). Tr. Wing, Det. Royle and Cpl. Russell assisted in the investigation.

    Brief Synopsis:  Cpl. Hink responded to two property damage crashes and one personal injury crash involving state DOT sand trucks between 1/15/2020 – 1/16/2020.  On 1/16/2020, Cpl. Hink was called out to a crash on 302 in Fryeburg involving at DOT sand truck where a vehicle, traveling too fast for conditions, failed to maintain their vehicle and rear-ended the sand truck.  As a result, the female passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries and had to be extricated from the vehicle.  She was transported to Bridgton Hospital with a broken ankle, injured shoulder and lacerations to her head.  Neither the male operator or female passenger were wearing seatbelts.  In all three crashes, it did not appear to be the fault of the DOT operator.  All three DOT trucks suffered minor damage.

    Brief Synopsis:  Tr. James stopped Andrew Albrecht (42) of Harpswell on I295 in Cumberland for an expired registration. It was determined Albrecht was operating HO Revoked and had a warrant out of Sagadahoc County and Alabama. He was charged accordingly and brought to jail for the local warrant and as a fugitive from justice.

    Brief Synopsis:      While monitoring traffic in Durham, Trooper Phillips came across a suspicious vehicle. The vehicle was eventually stopped for a traffic violation in Lisbon. The operator was identified and currently suspended for OUI and Driving to Endanger. Trooper Phillips arrested the suspect and towed his vehicle from the scene.

    Brief Synopsis:      While monitoring traffic in Auburn, Trooper Phillips initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for an expired registration greater than 150 days. After making contact with the driver and running the registration, it was determined that the registration was falsely attached. Trooper Phillips issued a summons to the driver.

    Brief Synopsis:      While monitoring traffic in New Gloucester, Trooper Phillips located a vehicle traveling at 25 MPH greater than the posted speed limit. Trooper Phillips was able to stop the vehicle which was at this time in Auburn. After making contact with the driver it was determined that they were operating after suspension. The operator was issued a summons and the vehicle was towed from the scene.

    Brief Synopsis:  Corporal Casey stopped a vehicle for speeding and determined the 20-year-old operator was in possession of marijuana. He was charged with Illegal Transportation of Drugs by a Minor and the Speeding violation.

    Brief Synopsis: Trooper Cowie attempted to stop a sedan in rural Otisfield for a speeding violation and the sedan failed to stop.  Trooper Cowie provided the plate number for the vehicle and it was determined to be a stolen vehicle out of Lewiston.  Trooper Cowie pursued the suspect into Casco and then into Poland for a distance of 13miles at speeds between 60mph and 100mph before the suspect unexpectable slowed to a stop.  The suspect who had been released from jail just days before complained and was taken into custody without incident.  The sedan had run out of gas ending the pursuit.  The suspect was charged with unauthorized use for the stolen vehicle as well as Eluding.

    Brief Synopsis: Trooper Jamo arrested Miranda Gerry (21) of Bryant Pond for OUI at the intersection of Routes 119 & 121 after she got lost and decided to flag down motorists for assistance.  The gentleman who stopped eventually called 911 and Trooper Jamo responded and found that she was intoxicated.  Gerry was transported to the Androscoggin County Jail for an Intoxilyzer test.

    Brief Synopsis:      Troopers Reny and Paquette conducted a traffic detail in conjunction with the Sabattus ice fishing derby.  Eight vehicles were stopped, and two summonses were issued.

    Brief Synopsis:  Det. Royle was called out to a single vehicle crash in the vicinity of MM9 SB on I-295.  Witnesses saw a lone male operator flee the scene before briefly returning and retrieving an item from the vehicle and fleeing once again.  The male was later arrested on a Warrant and possession of schedule W drugs by Portland PD when a unit received a call of a man walking along I-295 in the same area of the initial crash.  Det. Royle interviewed the male identified as GILLEY, CHRISTOPHER L (35) at CCJ.  Based upon Det. Royle’s initial investigation and interview, GILLEY was summonsed for Attaching False Plates, OAS (Revoked), Leaving the scene of a PI crash, and FT to report MV crash.

    Brief Synopsis:  Det. Royle initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle being operated on I-295 NB at 79 Mph in a posted 55 Mph limit.  As a result, the 15 year old female operator was issued a USAC for OPERATING WITHOUT LICENSE, PERMIT OR BEYOND CONDITION, RESTRICTION OR CLASS.

Royle initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle being operated on I-95 NB at 72 Mph in a posted 50 Mph Construction Zone limit.  The male operator identified as PORCHER, LASHAWN P (31) was found to have a SUSPENDED license.  PORCHER was served a USAC for OPERATING AFTER SUSPENSION (OAS).

    Brief Synopsis:  Corporal Casey ran a routine registration inquiry on a vehicle, determining that the registration was currently suspended for toll evasion. Upon stopping the vehicle, it was determined the operator’s license was currently revoked in the State of Virginia. He was charged with Operating with a Suspended Registration and Operating without a License.

    Brief Synopsis:  Trooper Pyburn arrested Daniel Grover of South Paris, after a traffic stop on Station Road in Hebron. Grover was transported to the Oxford County Jail, and charged with Operating After HO Revocation, class C, and VCR.

    Brief Synopsis:      While monitoring traffic on I 295 in South Portland, Trooper Phillips heard Troop G given a complaint of a road rage incident involving a firearm. Trooper Phillips positioned his vehicle near exit 44 to monitor traffic. Shortly after setting up his vehicle Trooper Phillips located the vehicle northbound on I95. The vehicle exited into South Portland and began heading towards Westbrook. Trooper Phillips stopped the vehicle near the Target on Cummings Rd. After removing the driver and passenger from the vehicle, Trooper Phillips also secured the firearm from the center console area of the vehicle. At the conclusion of the investigation the driver was arrested for Criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon.

    Brief Synopsis: On 02/03/2020 I was South bound on Route 202 in Greene when a vehicle passed Tr. Nadeau going North bound, driving in the break down lane. Tr. Nadeau turned around and followed the vehicle onto Main Street in Greene. The vehicle was all over the road and was driving in the oncoming lane. Tr. Nadeau initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and identified the diver as Maggie R Phelan (22) of Lewiston. After smelling a strong odor of intoxicants on Maggie, Tr. Nadeau ordered her out of the vehicle to do SFST’s. Based off the tests, I placed Maggie under arrest for OUI. Maggie became uncooperative. Maggie consented to a blood kit and I summonsed her for OUI.

    Brief Synopsis: On 02/08/2020 Tr. Nadeau was driving South bound on Washington Street in Auburn, when a vehicle did an illegal U-turn in front of him. The offending vehicle nearly struck the car just ahead of Tr. Nadeau. Tr. Nadeau stopped the offending vehicle and identified the driver as Thomas J GIBSON (37) of Scarborough. Thomas was mute during the entire traffic stop and would not talk or acknowledge Tr. Nadeau. Tr. Nadeau could see Thomas was impaired but when asked to step out of his vehicle, he rolled up his window. Tr. Nadeau was able to extricate GIBSON from his vehicle with the assistance of several deputies. Tr. Nadeau placed Thomas under arrest and transported him to AJC. GIBSON was charged with OUI Refusal and Obstructing Government Administration.

    Gentle Road 1A juvenile received non-life-threatening injuries when he hit a logging truck parked on the Gentle Road in Monticello.

    On Feb. 19, 2020, at around 7:15 p.m., a 17-year-old juvenile was driving his 2016 Honda sedan west on the Gentle Road, Monticello.  Robert Cox, 47, of Monticello, employed by Bartlett Forest Products, had a loaded log truck parked on Gentle Road, Monticello.  The truck did not have flashers or other lights activated.  The juvenile stated he saw the truck at the last moment, attempted to swerve around it, and struck the back of the trailer.  

    The juvenile was transported to Houlton Regional Hospital for injuries that are not life threatening.  His vehicle was towed from the roadway by Westerdahl’s Towing.

    The log truck was moved from the roadway and parked in a nearby lot.

    Trooper Ryan Kilcollins is still conducting an investigation.  Robert was issued a summons for parking to obstruct traffic.  The juvenile was issued a traffic summons as well.Gentle Road 2
