Brief Synopsis:      Tr. Kilcollins was driving through Presque Isle when he stopped a vehicle for a minor traffic infraction.  During the stop, it was discovered the female driver had a suspended Maine driver’s license.  Tr. Kilcollins issued the woman a criminal summons for OAS and helped her arrange to have a licensed driver come get her and the vehicle.

Brief Synopsis:      Tr. Martin was conducting traffic enforcement in St. John and stopped a vehicle for a minor violation.  The driver stated he did not have any identification on him and could not find the vehicles registration.  An investigation by Tr. Martin determined the driver’s identity and it was found he had a suspended driver’s license.  It was also determined the plates were falsely attached to the vehicle.  Tr. Martin issued the man a criminal summons for OAS and another for illegal attachment of registration plates.  The vehicle was towed from the roadway.

Brief Synopsis:      Sgt. Clark was conducting traffic enforcement in Littleton when he observed a vehicle speeding.  Sgt. Clark stopped the car and the driver stated he did not have any identification but provided a name and date of birth.  Sgt. Clark noted the man was very nervous.  An investigation showed the man was lying about his identity due to having a revoked license from Maryland and warrants for his arrest (non-extraditable).  Sgt. Clark knew the man was not being truthful about who he was and called for Tr. Kilcollins to respond with his fingerprint scanner.  The scan showed the man’s real identity which he admitted once he knew the scanner was coming.  The man was issued criminal summonses for providing a false name and for operating without a license.

Brief Synopsis:      Cpl Hafford and Tr Levesque responded to Perham for a report of vehicles blocking the road.  One of the vehicles was located and stopped, and the operator was charged with OAS.  His male passenger was being sought by Caribou PD, who responded and arrested that male on felony charges.

Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Curtin investigated what was originally reported to be a theft complaint.  Once he had spoken to all parties involved, it was determined that the issue was civil in nature and not a crime.  A woman had posted an item of hers for free on a social media platform.  The item was taken by an individual, but after it was taken and the owner realized who had taken it, they were not happy with the circumstances.  It was explained to the individuals involved that this issue was civil.

Brief Synopsis:      Tr. Casavant responded to a Littleton residence when a homeowner reported his home had been burglarized.  The man reported that his house had been vacant for the last couple of weeks, and upon his return to the property, he realized that firearms were missing.  The investigation is ongoing.

Brief Synopsis:      Tr. Saucier pulled over 2 vehicles for speeding on Route 11 in T7R5.  Once he had obtained documents from both operators, he learned that one of the operators had a suspended license out of Vermont.  The man had held a previous license in Maine with a long list of convictions that had been previously suspended as well.  He was charged with the traffic violations and a licensed driver was allowed to drive the vehicle from the scene.

Brief Synopsis:      Tr. Curtin pulled over a local woman for a traffic infraction in St. Agatha.  A license check revealed that her license was suspended.  She was arrested and transported to a local police department where she was later released with a Fort Kent District Court date early next year.

Brief Synopsis:      Tr. Saucier arrested a Patten woman after locating her and learning that she was several warrants out for her arrest.  The warrants were for various theft and drug charges.  She was arrested without incident and transported to the Aroostook County Jail.

 rooper Jeffrey Taylor and Trooper Blaine Silk arrested Michael Brunt (25) of Steuben for Operating After Suspension - Class C. Michael was also on three sets of bail conditions and was charged with Violating Conditions of Release.

Trooper Dana Austin stopped a motor vehicle for a traffic violation on the mud creek road in Hancock, as a result of the investigation, Sidney Griffin (50) of Franklin was summonsed for Operating after Suspension and Attaching False Plates.

11-27-19

Trooper Miles Carpenter and Trooper Gavin Endre responded to Route 9 in Amherst for a rollover crash with injury.  The crash took place just west of the Amherst General Store where there is ledge on both side of the road.  The unit which was traveling west struck the ledge on both sides of the road before coming to rest on its roof.  The operator was transported to the hospital by EMS. 

Corporal Micah Perkins responded to a crash in Princeton where three people were injured.  Trooper Andy Foss, Baileyville Police Department and Indian Township Police Department assisted.

Trooper Caleb McGary summonsed Wayne Hanscom (48) of Verona, for Criminal Speed after a traffic stop in Verona.  65mph in a 30mph zone

Brief Synopsis: On 11/25/2019, Jeremy Kirschmann called in to report his whole exhaust was missing off his 2003 Subaru, that was parked at his mother house on 701 Quaker Ridge Road in Leeds. Jeremy stated that all the exhaust pipes, muffler and catalytic converter were missing from under the car. Jeremy stated that the parts were stolen sometime in the last week and it is going to cost $1300 to replace everything. Jeremy stated that he knows for a fact it was his brother Josh Kirschmann and his friend Brian Cadorette that stole the parts. Jeremy stated that he has heard they have been stealing catalytic converters and car parts all over Androscoggin County. Josh Kirschmann was arrested and booked on FTA warrant on 11/30/19.

Brief Synopsis: On 11/30/2019, Tr. Nadeau was called to the area of Bog Rd in Greene for a report of a truck that was stuck in a famers field. Once on scene, the farmer drove Tr. Nadeau out by UTV to the truck. Bog Rd is no longer a maintained road and is mostly impassible due to water and mud. Sometime early in the morning the truck drove down Bog Road and got stuck up to the doors. It was reported that around 0630 that morning a hunter heard a truck revving and two males dressed in all black, walked past his hunting shack. The man identified the two men as Jeremy Kirschmann and Brian Cadorette. The truck also had a business plate on the front of it that said Pierre’s Auto Body, which is owed by Brian’s father. Around 1130 hours, Tr. Nadeau responded back to Pierre’s Auto Body to see when the truck was going to be pulled out.  As Tr. Nadeau turned into the driveway, he saw a man dressed in all black, look at him and then quickly walk to the back of the business. The man standing in the driveway confirmed Josh was the one who ran to the back of the business. Josh had an active warrant and had fled from police several times. Tr. Nadeau ran after Josh, but he kept walking away from him and would not acknowledge his commands. Tr. Nadeau pulled his taser out and advised Josh he was going to get tased, but then Josh put both his hands in his pockets. Tr. Nadeau then drew his duty weapon and ordered Josh to the ground. Tr. Nadeau was able to arrest Josh without further incident. Josh also had one hit of meth in his front pocket that was folded up in a small piece of paper. KIRSCHMANN was booked on his FTA warrant, which had an underlying charge for meth possession. Tr. Nadeau charged Josh with Class C Possession of Meth and Class C VCR. Deputy Mejia charged Josh with Class C Theft for several catalytic converters he had stolen in the Greene area. Josh was booked into the jail and was denied bail.

Brief Synopsis:         Tr. Reny responded to the area of 937 N. River Rd. in Greene for the report of an erratic driver. When Tr. Reny arrived on scene the vehicle was stopped in the middle of the road and the operator was passed out behind the wheel. Tr. Reny approached the vehicle, turned shut the truck off and instructed the Operator to exit the vehicle. Tr. Reny asked the operator how much alcohol he had drink, when the operator responded Tr. Reny could smell the overpowering odor of intoxicants come from his breath. The Operator Kiel Haley had an extremely hard time exiting the vehicle. Outside the vehicle the Kiel had difficulty standing on his own. Based on Kiel’s inability to stand on his own Tr. Reny placed Kiel under arrest for OUI (Alcohol). Tr. Reny located a fifth of Captain Morgan’s in the center console and approximately ¾ of the bottle was gone. Tr. Reny transported Kiel to the Androscoggin County Jail where Kiel was Summons and Booked for OUI (Alcohol), Attaching False Plates and Failure to Sign a Criminal Summons.

Brief Synopsis:         At approximately 2200 hours, Cpl. Hink was at K9 Training in Cornish when Sgt. Hanson asked if he was able to respond to a PI crash on Pequawket Trail in Hiram in the area of the Hiram bridge.  Cpl. Hink responded to the crash and learned there was no injuries.  After making contact with Jon-David Nagle (4/13/79), the operator of the vehicle, Cpl. Hink determined he had been drinking.  Nagle told Cpl. Hink he looked at his cell phone and he went off the road.  Cpl. Hink conducted SFST’s, arrested him for OUI and transported him to Bridgton PD.  Nagle was charged with Operating Under the Influence with Priors and issued a VSAC for Hands Free Violation.

Brief Synopsis:         Cpl. Hink attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding on Ossipee Trail in Cornish for 64 in a 35.  Cpl. Hink turned around, activated his emergency lights and siren and followed the male onto a dirt road and into the driveway of 42 Rocky Hill Drive in Cornish.  Cpl. Hink made contact with the male operator, Kaleb Vaillancourt (26) who admitted to not having a license.  Cpl. Hink could smell the odor of intoxicating beverage coming from Vaillancourt and conducted SFST’s.  After showing no impairment, Cpl. Hink charged Vaillancourt with OAS with priors, Class C and Failing to Stop for Police.  Vaillancourt was also issued a VSAC for speeding.

Brief Synopsis: On 11/30/2019, Tr. Willard stopped a black Chevy Equinox on the Manley Road in Auburn for a vehicle defect.  The operator, Scott Gagne was suspended and summonsed for the offense.

Brief Synopsis:         Tr. James took a report of a 10-59 “bucket truck” at mile 34 in Topsham. Tr. James found the truck trying to drive down the breakdown lane with two blown tires. The driver and passenger were warned to have a wrecker tow the vehicle and not to move the truck any further; they agreed. Tr. James circled back around an hour later to find the truck now at mile 31 and still moving. Tr. James stopped the truck and radioed for a commercial vehicle unit to assist. The driver, Lorezno Garcia (37) of Florida was charged with Operating Without a License. Tr. Northrup was also going to charge the company with several federal violations.

Brief Synopsis: Tr. Flanagan stopped a vehicle for traveling 70 mph in a 50 mph on I-295 in Portland during a snow storm. Upon further investigation, he discovered that the subject only had an identification card in Maine and did not possess a valid license.  The subject was charged with Operating without a license (Class E) and released from the scene with a licensed driver.

Brief Synopsis: Cpl. Hink responded to a single vehicle crash on the Shotgun Gulch Rd. in Hiram. The investigation revealed Pricilla Howard was the operator of the vehicle. Howard showed obvious signs of impairment and was subsequently arrested for Operating Under the Influence – Alcohol.

Brief Synopsis:      Tr. Martin was called to assist the USBP who had a subject parked in a vehicle in Hamlin that provided a false name. Tr. Martin learned that the female was on bail conditions with search and testing. A BP Agent advised that they had found what they believed to be Methamphetamine on her person.  The BP Agent field tested the substance and it tested positive for Methamphetamine. Tr. Martin responded and took the female into custody and transported her to the Aroostook County Jail where she was charged with VCR and Poss. of schedule W drug.

Brief Synopsis:      In 2018 Tr. Desrosier received a report of an identity theft of an individual in Frenchville.  A man claiming to be the victim was involved in a motor vehicle accident and used the victim’s name while at the hospital.  The victim received a bill from the hospital in the thousands of dollars.  Tr. Desrosier conducted an extensive investigation and subpoenaed the medical records and video of the male using the false name.  Tr. Desrosier submitted his report to the D.A. office for a warrant.  On 12/5/19, Tr. Desrosier took a complaint of a vehicle parked partially in the roadway in Stockholm.  Tr. Desrosier responded and could not locate the driver.  While Tr. Desrosier was towing the vehicle out of the roadway a male came out of the house who was the suspect in the identity theft.  Tr. Desrosier took the man into custody.  The man was able to make bail and released with a court date.

Brief Synopsis:      Tr. Kilcollins responded to the Bridgewater Port of Entry for a Canadian citizen who was operating on a suspended license out of New Brunswick.  Tr. Kilcollins responded to the POE and charged the man for operating without a license.

Brief Synopsis:      Tr. Levesque responded to a car off the road.  A juvenile had taken her mother’s car without permission at 0100hrs and went for a joy ride on back roads.  The juvenile did not have a license and was charged for operating without a license.  Tr. Levesque had the vehicle towed and brought the juvenile back to her mothers.

Brief Synopsis:      Houlton RCC learned of a male subject who had stolen a Dodge Durango SRT from a car dealership in Newport, ME. HRCC had information that the male could be headed to a residence in Houlton. At approximately 1850 hours, HRCC informed Tr Cotton that Houlton PD was in an active chase with the stolen SUV and they were headed North on Route 1. Tr Cotton observed the SUV drive pass the Houlton State Police Barracks at an estimated 120 MPH. Ultimately, The SUV had evaded law enforcement in Littleton. The Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office, Houlton PD, and the Maine State Police all searched the area in Littleton to try and locate the SUV. At approximately 1915 hours, Tr Cotton was traveling on the Ingraham Road in Littleton when he made contact with an older male walking towards Route 1. Tr Cotton identified the male and confirmed that he had been riding in the stolen SUV but was not the individual that was operating it. The male told Tr Cotton that the person we were looking for was stuck at the end of the Ingraham Road. The male advised Tr Cotton the man driving was unarmed but would not comply with us. Tr Cotton and Sgt. Chad Fuller located the vehicle that was stuck on an unplowed portion of the Ingraham Road and conducted a felony stop and the driver of the SUV was placed under arrest without incident.

Brief Synopsis:      A male subject called Houlton Regional Communications Center to report that his 2005 Arctic Cat snowmobile from his driveway between 2200 hours on 12/06 and 0530 hours on 12/07. Tr Cotton determined that someone dragged the snowmobile to the main road, got it running and then rode it to a series of logging roads in Smyrna. Investigation is on-going.

Brief Synopsis:        Tr Curtin spoke with a tenant of an apartment complex when he called to complain about the noise level from one of the neighbors in the area.  After speaking with the man, it was determined by Tr Curtin that the noise level was not criminal in nature and the issue was one best handled by the management of the building.

Brief Synopsis:       Tr Curtin spoke with a residence of Cross Lake when the woman called and reported she had paid for a dog in an on-line transaction and had not received the animal.  The woman had also contacted the local police department in Texas regarding the incident.  At this point it is unclear if the issue was simply one of a poor business practice or if the woman was defrauded out of her money.

Brief Synopsis:      Cpl. Michaud spoke with 2 women after the two had been involved in an altercation at a residence that both had been visiting at.  The women had been at odds for some time over social media posts that had been on-going between the two.  The two women ended up being involved in a physical altercation with each other and both came to the barracks to report the incident.  At the end of the investigation, both women decided that they did not want to move forward with any criminal process.  Cpl. Michaud urged both parties and their families to stop the back and forth on social media.

Brief Synopsis:      Tr Casavant took a theft complaint from a local electricity provider.  An employee reported that it appeared a resident of a home illegally connected power to a building and was stealing electricity.  The investigation is ongoing.

Brief Synopsis:      Tr Sylvia responded to a New Limerick residence when a property owner reported a theft.  The theft appeared to involve currency that had been kept at the residence.  The investigation is ongoing.

State Police seized five tractor trailers on Dec. 6, 2019 – all owned by the same company which owes about $75,000 in unpaid tolls to the Maine Turnpike Authority. The State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit impounded five tractor trailers owned and operated by Commodity Haulers Express of North Kingston, Rhode Island. The truck company is facing felony theft of services charges after racking up approximately $75,000 in unpaid toll debt over the past three years.

Last month, State Police Corporal Chris Rogers was asked to investigate a toll evasion case by the Maine Turnpike Authority. The Turnpike Authority reported that Commodity Haulers Express, which employs a fleet of approximately 20 trucks, had amassed an unpaid toll fare bill of approximately $75,000 over a three-year period utilizing 12 different tractor trailer trucks. The company had been notified of the unpaid bill multiple times by the Turnpike Authority. and their right to operate their vehicles in Maine had been suspended by the Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

Cpl. Rogers conducted surveillance and created a timeline of when the offending trucks were entering and leaving Maine. This morning, Troopers located five of the offending trucks. One was stopped southbound in York along the Maine Turnpike and the four others were stopped along Route 122 in Poland. The trucking company hauls Poland Spring Water. The water company was not aware or involved in the unpaid tolls.

The tolls owed from the five trucks seized today was about $42,000.

Trooper Caleb McGary responded to a multiple vehicle crash in Gouldsboro involving a State DOT plow truck and a Gouldsboro police cruiser.  As a result of the investigation one of the operators, Annette Reynolds (49) of Cherryfield, was summonsed for Operating After Suspension.

Trooper Dana Austin stopped a motor vehicle for a traffic violation in Penobscot, as a result of the investigation, Margaret Fowler (46) of Blue Hill was summonsed for Operating with a Suspended Registration.

Trooper Miles Carpenter arrested Melissa Smith (40) for Violating Conditions of Release, Operating Under the Influence and Assault.  The initial complaint was that there was a vehicle over an embankment in Marshfield.  Trooper Miles Carpenter was assisted by Deputy Ryan Allen

Trooper Dana Austin stopped a motor vehicle for a traffic violation on Route 1A in Dedham, as a result of the investigation, Nathaniel Madore (26) of Trenton was arrested for Unlawful Possession of Schedule W drug.  Also, charged during the traffic stop was Brandon Long (34) of Tremont. Brandon was also charged with Unlawful Possession of Schedule W drug.  Trooper Caleb Mcgary assisted with the traffic stop.

Troop D weekly activities for time December 2nd to December 8th 2019

On 11/29/19 Tr. Martin initiated a traffic stop in Knox. As a result of the stop the passenger Vernal Hood (35) of Searsmont was found to be in possession of 4 suspected Adderall pills. Hood was charged with unlawful possession of scheduled “W” drugs.  

On 12/7/19 Trooper Belanger stopped a vehicle on Rt. 1A in Winterport for an obstructed view. The passenger of the vehicle, Timothy Gallagher (49), of Winterport was arrested on a warrant for FTA.

On 12/7/19 Cpl. Robinson and Tr. Belanger responded to the Monroe Road in Monroe for a female that was slumped over the steering wheel of her vehicle.  Upon arrival Ashley Bailey (33) of Bangor was found to have paraphernalia on her person  and approximately one gram of crack.  Ashley was brought to the Waldo County Jail where Spec. Allen determined she was under the influence of drugs.  Ashley was charged with Possession of Schedule Drugs, Violating Conditions of Release, and OUI Drugs.  Ashley bail was revoked.

On 12/7/19 Sgt. Quintero arrested Wendie Wallace 51 of Woolwich for Violating her conditions release in the town of Woolwich.  Wallace was found to be in possession of and consuming alcohol while on conditional release prohibiting her use and possession of Alcohol.  Wallace called 911 to advise she was watching minor children and felt unable to do so after consuming the alcohol.  The children’s parents were contacted, and they were left in the care of their parents. 

On 12/8/19 Tr. Stewart and Tr. Adams responded to a crash in Swanville. The operator, Kenneth Hess (43) failed SFST’s and was arrested for OUI. 

On 12/8/19 Tr. Adams was monitoring traffic in the town of Winterport. A male pulled into the gas station. Tr. Adams ran the registration of the vehicle. The registered owner Kane Ackley 35 of Swanville was on bail and had a 6pm to 6am curfew. Ackley was in violation of his curfew. Upon a search of Ackley drug paraphernalia was also found on him. Ackley was arrested and charged with VCR and Drug paraphernalia. Ackley is on bail for a class B trafficking charge form November. 

State Police say four people suffered minor injuries when a charter bus overturned late Tuesday night on Interstate 95 in Burnham, north of Waterville.  Troopers said the driver of the bus fell asleep and the bus drifted off the right side of the road, overturned on its passenger side and came to rest down an embankment .   The injured were taken to hospitals in Pittsfield and Waterville with minor injuries.  The 34 other passengers and driver were transported to a Waterville motel for the night.  The group was headed to Orono, Maine from Schenectady, NY for a Christmas concert Wednesday night.

The crash took place about 11:30 PM and the bus was up righted by two wreckers just after 2AM and will be removed from the scene shortly.  The driver  -- 65 year old Charles Barry of Omaha, Nebraska was cited by troopers for failing to maintain control of the bus.  The bus is owned by Arrow Stage Line of Omaha. 

The injured passengers were three women and one man - all in their 20s and 30s.  Troopers arrived at the crash site minutes after the first calls came in of the crash and only a handful of the passengers were off the bus at the time.  A school bus from nearby Fairfield transported the uninjured passengers to the Waterville motel.  The group ranged in age from 11 to 49.   Pittsfield and Clinton Police assisted troopers at the crash site and three ambulances were used to transport the injured to the two hospitals in Pittsfield and Waterville. 
 

State Police say nine passenger vehicles , a wrecker and a tractor trailer truck were involved in a chain reaction crash on Interstate 95 in Pittsfield and Palmyra Friday night as freezing rain caught motorists by surprise.  The northbound lanes were closed for two hours as vehicles were towed from the scene and the roads were treated . 

The incident started when a vehicle skidded off the roadway into the median and a wrecker was called to the scene .  As troopers arrived the interstate became ice covered and as other vehicles entered the crash zone, they were unable to slow down and the secondary crashes blocked both northbound lanes.  Maine DOT was notified and Troopers closed I-95NB in Pittsfield by directing all northbound traffic off the interstate until the roadway could be treated.  Troopers escorted motorists from their crashed vehicles to the high embankment along the road for their safety as vehicles continued to crash.  One motorist had minor injuries and was checked by medical personnel at the scene.  Pittsfield Police assisted Troopers with closing the Interstate.  Freezing rain, the ice covered roadway and motorists going too fast for conditions all contributed to the crashes.
