Preschool students are included in Chapter 45 screening requirements with additional stipulations. They must be screened within the first 30 days of school. A student that is screened in preschool and continues into kindergarten in the same school does not need to be screened (in kindergarten) unless there is a concern. Parents of preschoolers should also be provided with written materials on the importance of oral health and the risks of lead poisoning. Because many preschools are operated in cooperation with outside agencies, the Department has created a sample addendum for a memorandum of understanding.
