Mycobacteriosis in Striped Bass

In recent years there has been an outbreak of mycobacteriosis in striped bass in the Chesapeake Bay.  While the disease is prevalent in the Bay it does not appear to have affected the migrating coastal population as much.

Diseased striped bass often have unsightly skin ulcers.  There is often scale loss around the ulcers and the fish may be very "skinny" or appear to be in generally poor condition.

If you see any of these fish we would like to know about them. Please contact Marine Recreational Fisheries Staff at (207) 633-9500.
