Aquaculture Scoping Session and Hearing Format Update
Maine's Civil State of Emergency ended on June 30, 2021, so DMR is transitioning scoping sessions and hearings back to an in-person format. Please review the information below for important updates concerning scoping sessions and lease hearings.
Scoping sessions: These are informal meetings scheduled and held by standard lease applicants. These meetings are required by regulation and are an opportunity for the applicant to present their draft standard lease proposal to members of the public for their feedback. Effective July 1, 2021 these meetings have returned to in-person, but applicants may also offer an additional remote option. During the Civil State of Emergency, DMR implemented a 14-day comment period for scoping sessions, but those will no longer be part of the scoping process. Members of the public and other stakeholders should make arrangements to attend scoping sessions, or contact the applicant directly with any questions or concerns.
Lease Hearings: These are adjudicatory proceedings, which are scheduled and held by DMR. Effective August 1, 2021, these proceedings will return to in-person. Notices for each respective hearing will continue to contain instructions about how interested persons can register to participate.
