Marine Patrol Release Identity of Man Whose Body Was Recovered from Flanders Bay
Sullivan - Marine Patrol has released the identity of the man whose body was recovered in Flanders Bay today.
The body of Robert Hill, 36 of Trenton was recovered by Marine Patrol after he reportedly went in the water when the canoe he and another man were in capsized.
The incident occurred this morning at approximately 10:30 around 100 yards from shore near Ober Cove Road in Flanders Bay, Sullivan.
According to Marine Patrol reports, the two were planning to harvest clams when their canoe capsized. The other man was able to swim to shore however Hill was unable to. An earlier release from Marine Patrol indicated that the other man made a call to 911, however Marine Patrol reports that a good Samaritan who witnessed the incident made the call.
Marine Patrol conducted a search nearby with three patrol vessels and along the shore on foot. Marine Patrol was joined in the search by US Coast Guard, the Sullivan Fire Department and local residents.
Hill's body was recovered at approximately 1:30 pm by Marine Patrol and confirmed deceased by local EMS. His body has been transported to a local funeral home.
