Hearings on Love Point Oysters Aquaculture Lease Applications

The Department of Marine Resources (DMR) is holding two public hearings, on October 26, 2021 to take evidence on two aquaculture lease applications from Love Point Oysters, LLC listed below:

  • Application 1: proposed 4.15 acre site, south of Crab Island in Casco Bay, Freeport, for the suspended culture of shellfish.

  • Application 2: proposed 4.78 acre site, southeast of Winslow Park in Casco Bay, Freeport, for the suspended culture of shellfish.

The hearing on Application 1 will begin at 4:00pm on October 26, 2021. The hearing on Application 2 will begin after the conclusion of the 1st hearing, but no sooner than 4:30pm.

The hearings will be held at the Freeport Community Center, Bradley Room, 53 Depot Street, Freeport.

If the October 26, 2021 hearings are postponed or continued, alternate public hearings will be held on October 27, 2021 at the same time and location. Notice of cancellation will be posted on DMR's website.

REGISTERING FOR THE HEARING: The hearings will be conducted in accordance with the adjudicatory proceeding provisions of the Maine Administrative Procedure Act (5 M.R.S.A., ch. 375, subchapter 4). Persons wishing to attend the hearings and ask questions of the parties or testify under oath about the effect of the proposed lease must register to participate. Interested persons need to complete an online registration form no later than 5:00 p.m., October 11, 2021. If you are unable to register online or need assistance with the form, please contact DMR.

INTERVENING: Applications to intervene need to be received by DMR no later than 5:00 p.m., October 11, 2021. DMR will decide whether to grant intervenor applications five days before the hearing. If you are granted intervenor status, you become a legal party to the proceeding. See the contact information below to request an intervenor application from DMR. You do not need to be an intervenor to participate in the proceeding.
