What is Maine Prevention Services?
A collaborative effort of the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention and community partners that works across the state to prevent obesity, tobacco, and other substance use. MPS is comprised of five domains: Substance Use Prevention, Tobacco Use and Exposure Prevention, Youth Engagement, Mass-Reach Health Communications and Obesity Prevention.

Domain 1: Substance Use Prevention – Led by University of New England (UNE)
As part of Maine Prevention Services, the University of New England works with 21 community organizations statewide to prevent youth from using alcohol or marijuana, or misusing prescription drugs. This work is done in partnership with schools, law enforcement, community agencies and health care providers among others.
Domain 2: Tobacco Use and Exposure Prevention – Led by MaineHealth Center for Tobacco Independence
As part of Maine Prevention Services, the MaineHealth Center for Tobacco Independence works with 14 community organizations to create tobacco and smoke-free environments across Maine, and help Maine youth and young adults be tobacco-free.
Domain 3: Youth Engagement and Empowerment – Led by Opportunity Alliance/MYAN
As part of Maine Prevention Services, the Maine Youth Action Network works with eight community organizations statewide —to engage young people in leadership development and holistic prevention programming. These efforts strive to lower rates of youth substance use and increase young people's resilience.
Domain 4: Mass-Reach Health Communication – Led by Rinck Advertising
As part of Maine Prevention Services, Rinck Advertising provides statewide, evidence-based mass-reach health communications targeting specific audiences through media tactics to change knowledge, beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors about commercial tobacco and substance use.
Domain 5: Obesity – Led by Let's Go! A program of The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center
As part of Maine Prevention Services, Let's Go! works with 14 community partners statewide to work with child care programs, school districts and healthcare practices to implement evidenced based strategies and develop policies that create environments to support healthy eating and active living.
