Maine Turnpike Authority Toll Plaza, York
Natural Resources Protection Act and Site Location of Development Application
The Maine Turnpike Authority (MTA) is seeking approval under the Natural Resources Protection Act (NRPA) and Site Location of Development Act to construct a new, open-road tolling plaza at mile 8.8 in York. The new toll plaza will include open, high speed tolling lanes (three in each direction) and nine traditional cash lanes (four northbound and five southbound), a new administration building with associated parking, and an employee/service access drive from Chases Pond Road. The project also includes the removal of the existing toll plaza and associated development at mile 7.3. The project will impact approximately 1.5 acres or freshwater wetlands, 24 linear feet of streams, and portions of the critical terrestrial habitat around significant vernal pools (significant wildlife habitat under the NRPA). Construction within the Interstate corridor is covered under the Maine State Transportation Site Law General Permit. MTA has already filed a Notice of Intent for coverage under this general permit.
