IV. NARRATIVE
9/6/11 1615 Jamie Leo from the Thomaston Fire Department reported that gasoline had spilled to the road and roadside at the intersection of High Street and Route 131 in Thomaston when a pickup truck gas tank dropped out of the truck. The tank leaked its entire contents. The Fire Department collected spilled product with absorbent pads. I went to the site and found that the roadside dirt had been impacted by the spilled fuel. The tank was reported to have had an estimated 15 gallons in it at the time of the spill. The area is served by public water but the site was up hill from a wetland and stream that ran into the St George River. The absorbent pads were collected and soil was removed from the roadside until field testing of soil bag head space vapor readings were below 100 ppm using a photo ionization detector. Kalloch construction removed the impacted roadside soil and backfilled the area with clean soil.No further action by Response Services is expected.
