One of the recommendations from the May 2007 Status Report of the combined Appropriations and Criminal Justice Sub-committee on Corrections was the establishment of a summit:
Request district attorneys, judges, county commissioners, and the Department of Corrections to establish a summit to highlight best practices currently in use. It is the intent of the sub-committee for these entities to develop strategies and make recommendations. These agencies will be required to report back to the Joint Standing Committee on Criminal Justice and Public Safety with findings and recommendations upon conclusion of the summit.
The summit was held in Augusta on October 30, 2007.
