MTI is a private non-profit organization in the state of Maine that supports the commercialization of technology-based products and services and the creation of more Maine jobs. The organization provides a number of grants that require 1:1 cash match and apply for the different stages of the business development of the product.
Seed Grant Program
Grants of up to $12,500 (effective April 19, 2007 deadline) per project are offered on a competitive basis to support very early activities for product development, commercialization or business planning and development. Grants are awarded up to six times each year.
Development Awards
Investments of up to $500,000 will be made to support research and development of new products or services in the State's targeted technology sectors. Development Awards are awarded three times per year.
Cluster Enhancement Awards
Awards of up to $200,000 per project will be made on a competitive basis to seed efforts that will stimulate and support the formation and growth of technology businesses. This program requires that a letter of intent be submitted to the MTI prior to submission of a full proposal. The MTI Board of Directors will consider full applications on a monthly basis at its regularly scheduled board meetings.
SBIR/STTR Phase 0 Proposal Assistance Program
Grants of up to $5,000 per proposal are offered on a competitive basis to foster and support competitive federal Small Business and Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) proposal submissions from Maine applicants. Grants will be awarded on a rolling basis.
Accelerated Commercialization Fund (ACF)
This program can help selected Development Award recipients bridge the financing gap between R&D and sales.
North Star Alliance Fund
The North Star Alliance Technology Fund (NSATF) is designed to suit the needs of companies and non-profit organizations in Maine’s boatbuilding, composite materials and related marine trade industries. The fund is used for a co-investment of up to 75% of an eligible Maine Technology Iinstitue (MIT) seed grant, development awards and cluster enhancement awards. The goal of the Fund is to enhance the development and the commercialization of the new technologies.
