Market/Business Development

Today, as Maine's third largest manufacturing sector, Maine's boat building industry generates $355 million in sales and $550 million in total economic impact, providing 2,500 Maine families with decent wages and good benefits. From luxury yachts serving international clients to workboats and smaller handcrafted wooden boats, Maine's boats exemplify the finest craftsmanship and latest technology available. To grow, Maine's boat builders need an ever larger pool of skilled workers to meet demands.

Working in close collaboration with Maine Built Boats, Maine Composites Alliance and the Maine Marine Trades Association, the Market Development Team will:

  1. Increase awareness for Maine built boats nationally and internationally
  2. Position boat building as a viable and exciting career to attract an experienced workforce, recruit new workers to the industry and stimulate the trained workforce within the state
  3. Support industry growth and its ability to compete globally so that we can secure a solid future for employees and their employers.
  4. Promote Maine's leadership role in composites and marine trades
  5. Conduct outreach to Maine's students to consider boat building as a potential future career

The Market/Business Development priorities include:

  1. Market Analysis and Messaging
  2. Integrated Campaign for Workforce Development and Talent Attraction
  3. Educational Outreach to Attract New Business and Create Jobs
  4. Market Development to Grow the Boat Building Industry

Process

Requests for proposals (RFPs) will be issued for Market Development activities to engage Maine's talent and expertise in the initiative. RFPs will be advertised publically in the Kennebec Journal and Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram and posted on the state's website, Maine.gov.
