(Augusta)- The Maine State Treasurer’s Office has launched a new and improved website. The new website provides users with the ability to search for unclaimed property, research state checks, obtain a history of municipal revenue sharing payments, get information about state bonds and learn about state investments, education saving and agricultural and commercial loan programs. In addition, the site links to numerous websites that assist individuals with personal money management and college finance information.

“The new website gives users access to the State Treasurer’s Office 24/7 through a clear, easily navigated and logical format. I hope to continually get feedback on information and services that users would like to find on this website and to continue this Office’s IT improvement efforts,” stated State Treasurer, David Lemoine.

Lemoine also noted the apparent success of all the bond packages on yesterday’s ballot, and asks that recipients of the expected bond proceeds submit their phase one budgets and timelines as soon as possible. “The voters have spoken, and its time for this Office to get to work making the authorized funds available,” he added. Borrowing is conducted by the State Treasurer’s Office on a quarterly basis through Bond Anticipation Notes (BANs), with the annual BANs being consolidated into a bond package in June. The next BAN is expected to occur in January, 2006. The Treasurer’s call for phase-one project needs is in keeping with his policy reducing debt service costs by borrowing “no more than we need, no sooner than we need it.”

The Maine State Treasurer’s Office website can be found at www.maine.gov/treasurer/ or reached via the state’s homepage at www.maine.gov. It was designed by the Information Resource of Maine (InforME) who manages the official state webpage in conjunction with the staff at the Maine State Treasurer’s Office.
