State Treasurer David Lemoine Addresses Mexican Government and Finance Officials

Augusta- Maine State Treasurer David Lemoine was invited by USAID to address government finance professionals from the federal, state, and municipal levels in Mexico City. USAID collaborates with Mexican partners to increase access to effective financial services for traditionally underserved populations. The USAID program will build the capacity of microfinance institutions, improve the supervisory and regulatory systems, and leverage remittances for new financial services, savings, and investment. USAID collaborates with the Mexican government to achieve higher standards on accountability and openness.
In his remarks, Lemoine talked about the Maine State Treasurer’s core responsibilities of managing the state’s cash pool, debt and state held trusts. The Mexican municipal bond market is only about 4 years old, and only a few states have had market experience. Lemoine spoke about his experience selling Maine bonds.
