The Maine Department of Public Safety, in coordination with the Maine Justice Assistance Council, is developing Maine’s STOP Violence Against Women Formula Grant Implementation Plan 2009 STOP RECOVERY Funds. The stated purposes of the Recovery Act are to preserve and create jobs and promote economic recovery; to assist those most impacted by the recession; to provide investments needed to increase economic efficiency by spurring technological advances in science and health; to invest in transportation, environmental protection, and other infrastructure that will provide long-term economic benefits; and to stabilize State and local government budgets, in order to minimize and avoid reductions in essential services and counterproductive state and local tax increases.
A public hearing will be held on April 15 to provide input into the direction of the plan. The meeting will take place at 11:30 AM at the Maine Department of Public Safety, 45 Commerce Drive, Augusta. The objectives of the plan are to identify needs, set priority responses and guide the projects we will fund with our STOP funds as we focus our efforts on crimes against women in Maine.
