Troop A news 2/17 to 3/33/12/2013 2-17-13, Sgt. Nichols arrested a 45 y.o. male from Sanford for improper plates and operating an unregistered vehicle. Subject’s company is under a federal out of service order and is not allowed to conduct motor carrier operations. Subject was operating as a motor carrier under contract for snow removal for the York County Sheriff’s Department and plowing the jail property when he was arrested. Subject had attached plates from a passenger car to his plow truck because his original plates are suspended and had been seized by Sgt. Nichols a few months ago. Subject was transported to the YCJ. 2-26-13, Sgt. Nichols and Lt. Nyitray met with Road Commissioners from several area towns. Topics discussed were commercial vehicle safety and legal requirements for the snow removal fleets in the area. The Commissioners appreciated the State Police sharing information with them, and further training will be scheduled in the spring for additional local towns. 2-26-13, Sgt. Nichols and Lt. Nyitray met with the Board of Selectmen in Alfred regarding the new call sharing agreement with the Sheriff’s Department. Under the new agreement, the State Police will be the primary law enforcement for the town. The selectmen are very happy with having the State Police, and look forward to working together. 2-26-13 Sgt. Nichols arrested a 27 y.o. male from Lebanon, for Violation of Conditions of Release. 2-26-13 Sgt. Burke observed a female motorist operating southbound on Rte. 202 in the town of Lebanon. Sgt. Burke observed she wasn’t wearing her seatbelt and initiated a traffic stop for the violation. During the traffic stop Sgt. Burke observed an unmarked prescription bottle in plain view. He asked to see the bottle and its contents and the operator produced several types of illegal Schedule W drugs. The drugs were confiscated and the operator was summonsed for Illegal Possession of Schedule W Drugs and Operator failing to wear seatbelt. Tpr. Fenderson investigated a theft of an IPOD from a residence in Lebanon. The property was stolen sometime in the last two weeks. Tpr. Fenderson investigated a burglary in Alfred. The house appears to have been entered in the last three days. Property appears missing, but has not been confirmed. The resident is in Florida until early May. Tpr. Fenderson located three firearms still in the residence after the burglary. The firearms have now been removed until the owner returns home. 3-1-13 Troopers Forbes and Heimbach responded to a residence in Lyman to escort a DHHS Child Protective Caseworker on a home visit after DHHS received information from SMMC ER medical staff noting a possible domestic violence incident earlier in the day. During the escort, the Troopers’ investigation led them to arrest a 28 y.o. male for Domestic Violence Assault. Tpr. Smith arrested a 21 y.o. male from Lebanon for DV Assault, Stealing drugs (Class C) and VCR. 3-1-13 Tpr. Coflesky observed a silver SUV operating with an expired inspection sticker on Route 202 in Lebanon. Upon further investigation during the traffic stop Tpr. Coflesky learned that the 36 y.o. operator from Lebanon had a suspended license. Subject was summonsed for the expired 2010-2011 inspection and the OAS. 3-1-13 Gray RCC received a report of a verbal domestic on Interstate 295 in South Portland. A 23 y.o. male and his 19 y.o. fiancée were passengers in a vehicle when they started arguing. The female operator of the vehicle pulled over because she wanted the male subject out of her car. Tpr. Doughty was the first to arrive on-scene. Male subject asked Tpr. Doughty to put him in handcuffs before he got violent. Tpr. Rose and Tpr. Cooley arrived on-scene shortly after. Up to this point no crime had been committed by any parties involved. The male subject then threatened to kill his fiancée. Subject was arrested for DV Terrorizing and taken to the Cumberland County Jail. 3-2-13 Tpr. Forbes and K-9 Champ were requested by the York County Sheriff’s Department to respond to Limerick for a suicidal subject that left the house armed with a gun. Subject had already shot the gun once before police responded. Just prior to Tpr. Forbes arriving on scene the subject was located and arrested. Tpr. Smith arrested a 24 y.o. male in Newfield for third offense OUI and Aggravated operating after habitual offender revocation. Subject refused FST’s and to take breath test. 3-2-13 Tpr. Forbes and Tpr. Cooley stopped a vehicle northbound on I-295 in South Portland for a traffic infraction. During a search of motor vehicle, Troopers located between 200-300 grams of cocaine in a hide under the center console. The drugs were wrapped in duct tape and coffee to mask the odor from police K-9’s. A 30 year old Portland man was arrested for Class B Aggravated Trafficking in a Schedule W Drug. Subject also has a prior drug trafficking charge and is on probation in Connecticut. Sgt. Huckins and Tpr. Hager assisted at the scene. 3-3-13 Tpr. Wells charged a 51 y.o. male from Lyman with Operating with an Expired License greater than 90 days (Class E.) Subject was stopped for an expired inspection sticker. The vehicle was towed from the scene as it was not inspected and there was no insurance on the vehicle. |
