WEEKLY REPORT MAJOR CRIMES UNIT - NORTH January 28, 2013 to February 3, 2013

I. Items of interest to Local Media:

Det. Bryant attended a board meeting for the New England Division of IAI in Concord, NH.

Det. Bryant worked with the attorney general’s office in regards to the officer involved shooting presentation in Minot.

Det. Jackson conducted follow up interviews on a case and submitted the follow up to the District Attorney’s Office.

Det. Tupper continues to investigate a case involving an unlawful sexual contact with children. This week, two additional victims came forward and one boy that was previously interviewed but didn’t disclose. The case file has been submitted to the Skowhegan D.A. for a charging decision.

Det. Tupper reviewed reports in the Ayla Reynolds case.

Det. Andrews was assigned a late report DHHS referral in the towns of Belfast and Camden. A 15 year-old female has disclosed to her therapist that her father had sexually assaulted her from the ages of three to ten

Det. Andrews continued to work on the 1988 Janet Brochu cold case.

Det. Jacques worked on correcting the hundred plus page transcript from the suspect interview in the Waterville Murder.

Det. Brockway attended the Matthew Partridge arraignment, the defense is looking for a spring, early summer trial.

Det. Brockway continues working on assigned sexual assault investigations.

Det. Chabot worked on both the Blanche Kimball murder investigation and the Hallowell embezzlement case. Det. Chabot attended Gary Raub’s arraignment this week in Kennebec Superior Court. Raub entered a not-guilty verdict.

Det. Chabot participated in K9 detector training.

Det. King conducted three pre-employment polygraphs and investigated a GSA involving a 5 year old victim and a 14 year old suspect. The suspect was charged with GSA prior to his admission to Acadia for evaluation.

Detective Josh Birmingham continues to investigate an unlawful sexual touching case that originated in the town of Carthage and identified another female victim. The female, who was around nine years old at the time, was touched by a fifty year old man.

Detective Josh Birmingham investigated an unlawful sexual touching case that occurred on a local school bus. A thirteen year old girl was touched by a fourteen year old boy. Another victim was identified from a similar incident that occurred a year ago involving the same suspect and M.O. That incident had previously gone unreported.

Detective Josh Birmingham worked on Ayla Reynolds lead sheets and reports.

Det. Crane continued to work on the MCU evidence locker.

Det. Farren followed up on several sexual abuse investigations and scheduled a polygraph regarding a sexual abuse complaint in Cooper.

Det. Farren completed reports on several cases.

Det. Stoutamyer spent a day testifying in a preliminary child protective hearing in reference to a recent case.

Det. Stoutamyer assisted MDEA as a lab team member on Tuesday. MDEA had a search warrant for an apartment in the town of Houlton. Units searched, collected, and processed evidence of methamphetamine manufacturing, and 3 individuals were arrested.

Sec. 6 detectives worked on the AG’s Star Vining to do list.

Det. Crane and Det. Sperrey responded to Easton to assist the FMO on the double fatal fire. Det. Sperrey prepared for an upcoming active shooter class being hosted in Houlton.
Det. Pelletier testified at the Motion to Suppress Hearing about statements made by Michael CARTER regarding the investigation into a shooting in Lamoine during March of 2012, resulting in Randy SINCLAIR’s death. The AG’s office and Defense will have 3 weeks to prepare briefs before the Judge will render a decision. Det. Pickering was present for the hearing but did not testify.

Det. Fiske completed investigative work on active and new referrals. She also monitored a Forensic Interview conducted at the Hancock County DA’s office.

Det. Pickering assisted the Hancock SO with a GSA investigation in Orland.

Det. Pickering began an investigation into reported child sexual abuse. He conducted an interview of a 14 year old victim who disclosed sexual abuse by a 30 year old male. The abuse reportedly occurred in Old Town. The suspect was interviewed but denied the allegations.

Det. Pickering worked on getting caught up on reports and open investigations.

Det. Mitchell completed his investigation into a child abuse case that occurred in Clifton.

Det. Mitchell completed his investigation into a child abuse case that occurred in Hartland.

Det. Mitchell completed his investigation into a child abuse case that occurred in Eddington.

Det. Mitchell continued the investigation of a child abuse case in Orland.

Det. Mitchell was assigned a child abuse case that occurred in the Town of Franklin. Detectives Mitchell and Fiske observed a forensic interview that was conducted with the alleged victim.

Det. Mitchell was assigned a late report child abuse case that occurred in the Bucksport / Orland areas several years ago.

Det. Mitchell served several subpoenas for an upcoming Ellsworth trial.

Det. Peary continued his work on a applicant background investigation.

Det. Peary provided discovery to the AG’s office regarding an assisted living assault case.

Det. Peary followed up on suspicious death report from 1972.

Det. Strout worked on active cases and is preparing for a suppression hearing in the Jerry Perdomo murder investigation.
