Maine PUC Issues RFPs for Standard Offer ServiceJune 10, 2009 Maine Public Utilities Commission News Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE AUGUSTA, MAINE –The Maine Public Utilities Commission today issued a set of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for retail standard offer service for customers of Central Maine Power (CMP) and Bangor Hydro-Electric (BHE) Companies. The RFPs cover service for all residential, commercial and industrial customers of the two utilities. For medium and large commercial and industrial customers, bids will be for a six-month term beginning September 1st, 2009. Initial proposals for these customer classes are due to the MPUC on July 1st, 2009. For residential and small commercial customers, bids will be for terms of up to three years beginning March 1st, 2010. Initial proposals for these customer classes are due to the MPUC on July 15th, 2009. CMP and BHE are Maine’s largest electric transmission and distribution utilities, serving about 700,000 customers in southern, central and eastern Maine. Both utilities are within ISO-NE. Aggregate retail sales by CMP and BHE in 2008 were about 10.5 million megawatt hours, of which about 60% currently receives standard offer service. The PUC is responsible for soliciting suppliers to provide standard offer service through a competitive bid process.
