MPUC Issues Standard Offer RFPsOctober 8, 2008 Maine Public Utilities Commission FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 9, 2008 MPUC Issues RFPs for Standard Offer Service AUGUSTA, Maine – The Maine Public Utilities Commission (MPUC) issued Requests for Proposals (RFPs) this week for retail standard offer service for residential and small non-residential customers of Bangor Hydro-Electric Company (BHE) and Central Maine Power (CMP) for the term beginning March 1, 2009. In addition, the MPUC issued an RFP for standard offer services for all retail customers of Maine Public Service (MPS) for the same term. And the MPUC is providing information on separate solicitations by MPS for wholesale standard offer service, and by Van Buren Power and Light and Power District for standard offer service. BHE and CMP: Initial proposals with indicative pricing are due on November 5, 2008. BHE currently serves about 115,000 residential, small non-residential and lighting accounts. CMP currently serves about 590,000 residential, small non-residential and lighting accounts. More than 99% of these customers currently receive standard offer service. Retail sales to these customers in calendar year 2007 were about 4.7 million megawatt-hours. Suppliers chosen in this solicitation will provide service for two load segments, each for a 33% share of these classes. Proposals must be for requirements service, and can include both supply and demand resources. Initial proposals with indicative pricing are due on November 5, 2008. MPS currently serves about 37,000 customers. About 76% of these customers currently receive standard offer service. MPS’ total retail sales in 2007 were about 550 million kWhs and its system peak demand was about 100 megawatts. The winning bidder(s) will provide requirements service for all or a designated portion of the load in one or more of MPS’ standard offer classes: (1) residential/ small commercial; (2) medium C&I; and (3) large C&I. Information about these classes is provided at the RFP web page. In a separate solicitation issued today, MPS is requesting wholesale supply proposals for these same loads.
