October 20, 2011

Augusta, ME - Today, the Maine Public Utilities Commission issued a Request for Proposals (RFPs) for retail electricity standard offer service for residential and small commercial customers within the service area of Central Maine Power (CMP) and Bangor Hydro-Electric (BHE) for terms of up to three years in duration beginning March 1, 2012. Initial proposals are due to the Commission by November 16th, 2011. Regulated by the Commission, CMP and BHE are electric transmission and distribution utilities serving customers throughout Maine. Total electricity sales to these customer classes in 2010 were approximately 4.7 million megawatt hours (MWh), of which about 95% is provided by standard offer service.

The RFPs and related materials including detailed load data for these classes are available at the Commission’s website at www.maine.gov/mpuc. The RFPs can be found at the following link:
• CMP and BHE residential and small commercial:
http://www.maine.gov/mpuc/electricity/rfps/standard_offer/sosmall0911/index.shtml It is the Commission’s responsibility to solicit standard offer service from licensed competitive electricity providers through a competitive bid process. Maine’s retail electricity access rules require the Commission to ensure that standard offer service for electricity supply is available to all customers in Maine. If electricity customers have not purchased supply from another electricity supplier, they receive standard offer supply service. Specific inquiries regarding the RFPs should be directed to Angela Monroe, 207-287-1397 or angela.monroe@maine.gov .
