MPUC Releases RFP for Green Power Offer Supplier

December 16, 2010

Augusta, Maine—Today the Maine Public Utilities Commission announced the release of the Request for Proposals (RFP) for a green power offer supplier to launch and manage a voluntary, state-wide green power offer through the State’s regulated transmission and distribution (T&D)utilities.
In 2009, the Maine Legislature passed a law based directing the Commission to arrange for a green power offer that is composed of green power supply and to ensure that the green power offer is available to residential and small commercial electricity customers. Green power supply is defined as electricity or renewable energy credits for electricity generated from renewable capacity resources. The RFP requests proposals from green power suppliers to develop and manage a state-wide program that would provide the opportunity for T&D customers who elect to participate in the green power offer to purchase renewable energy credits that correspond to all or a portion of their monthly electricity use.
