Announcing DevCon IX
By B. Victor Chakravarty, Enterprise Architect
The semi-annual Developers' Conference (DevCon) is the best collective brainstorming opportunity for application developers statewide. First launched in the spring-summer of 2006, it is now time for the ninth conference of the series.
DevCon IX will be held on Thursday, July 1, 2010, 8:15AM, at the Central Maine Commerce Center Florian Room. The theme is Deployment Certification Policy Update. Please register (accessible only from the Intranet) as soon as possible.
The Deployment Certification Policy is now more than three-and-a-half years old. It is time to review the lessons learned over that period and update the policy. We have interviewed a large sampling of stakeholders from all three branches of OIT: Applications, Infrastructure, and Project Management. Based on these interviews, we would like to unveil the new policy draft at the DevCon IX, and seek feedback from the wider community.
For I.T. developers and project managers alike, Deployment Certification is undoubtedly the most significant I.T. policy. And DevCon IX is their best opportunity to shape the next revision of this policy. Of course, it also carries all the other usual benefits of a DevCon: four hours of free training, no long-distance travel, peer-to-peer networking, brainstorming with senior OIT management, free beverages, etc., etc.
We thank the entire State developer community, and that includes those from both the Executive and non-Executive branches, for their strong support to the previous eight DevCons. In fact, more than once, developers have braved storms and blizzards to pack the venue to its full capacity. We look forward to the same kind of passionate support for the upcoming DevCon IX. On our part, we sincerely promise to accommodate your feedback before finalizing the next revision of the Deployment Certification Policy.
