MSCommNet Relocates

By Tom Driscoll, MSCommNet

The MSCommNet team is relocating to a new office effective Monday August 31st. MSCommNet is OIT's Maine State Communications Network project which is four years into an eight year process to develop and commission a unified statewide land mobile radio network for State law enforcement, public safety, and public service agencies.

The MSCommNet project falls under OIT's Radio Services Section which is part of Network Services\Core Technologies. Shawn Romanoski directs the Radio Services Section and is also the key technical sponsor of the MSCommNet project.

As OIT has reorganized the State's information technology resources under an enterprise model, a parallel process has been occurring with the consolidation of the State's legacy departmental radio systems. OIT's Radio Services Section now provides consolidated radio services across all participating State agencies for dispatch centers, communication towers, radios, microwave, and public safety communication systems.

Effective Monday August 31, 2009, the MSCommNet team is now located at 290 State Street (the old theatre between Pat's Pizza and the IF&W headquarters). The Anthony Avenue space being vacated will soon be occupied by the Policy, Planning, and Oversight Division.

This is a low cost “do it yourself” move for the MSCommNet team members lead by Project Officer Manager Craig Hitchings. The State already leases this space and MSCommNet will share the building with Bruce Trask's Central printing folks.

MSCommNet current team members are Craig Hitchings, Shawn Romanoski, Stanley Fage, Rachel Garippa, Rodney Littlefield, Joe Grimmig, David Mars, Jim Williams, Surran Pyne, Ivan Pacagik, and Tom Driscoll.
