Heard a Good Book Lately?
By Peggy O'Kane, Maine State Library The Maine State Library, in conjunction with Maine InfoNet, is now offering books in downloadable audio format. Included are classics, fiction and non-fiction bestsellers, foreign language tutorials and popular young adult titles. Most of the titles are available in WMA and, in a recent change, MP3. In addition, some of the titles can be brunt to a CD. Compatible devices include Apple iPod, Microsoft Zune, RIM BlackBerry, and SanDisk Sansa. Using the ServiceAll Maine state employees are eligible for a library card from the Maine State Library. If you do not yet have a card a simple application will get you started. Choose the option for database access if you are unable to come to the library to pick up a card. Over 130 libraries across Maine are participating in the service so your local library card may already allow you access to these books. Once you have a library card from a participating library, you can download a book from your internet connection. To find the next book you want to hear, search the InfoNet Download Library catalog. If you need help with this service please contact the Ask A Librarian!. Article posted on: August 17, 2009Comments on this article? Send us your feedback. |
