ADAM Group Expands Offerings
By Art Henry and Henry Quintal, OIT
The question that comes up periodically is: “What is happening with the ADAM Group?” As you may know, the ADAM ( Application Development And Management) Group provides a wide range of applications development services, utilizing multiple development tools (including Oracle Forms and Reports, PL/SQL for the web, JDeveloper IDE, Java, and ArcGIS Server), that are available to all state agencies.
These services include new automation projects, enhancements to existing systems, conversions to newer technologies, systems analysis and specifications, and production system support through our application support team (AST). While the group is small in size, the collective skills and knowledge of staff allow the group to provide a very broad range of services to customers, keep up-to-date on supported toolsets, and learn new toolsets to meet the evolving needs of our customers.
While ADAM, as a part of OIT, is available to provide service to all agencies in state government, it is overseen by Steve Campana, the Information Technology Director for the Department of Professional and Financial Regulation, Department of Economic Community Development, Workers Compensation, three Community Action Programs, and the Department of Labor.
Recently ADAM staff was trained in ArcGIS Server and Visual Studio so they may provide service to any agencies that want to move forward in that direction with GIS applications. ADAM has also been working closely with many of the Agency Information Technology Directors (AITDs) to determine where synergies can be realized among all agencies, OIT Core Technology Services and ADAM expertise.
ADAM has reviewed the following products and is using them within the development group; Subversion, Mantis, and SQL Developer. Reviews of Open Source products will continue to determine where money can be saved on infrastructure costs and/or improving effectiveness. If you are interested in discussing how these products are being used or sharing your experiences you can contact Mike Francoeur, Ken Dechaine, Ryan Gross, or Jeff Jordan for Subversion, Mike and Ken for SQL Developer, and Ryan and Jeff for Mantis.
The objective of the full development team is to do everything to meet the needs of customer agencies. Services span the entire Systems Development Life Cycle, to help you from the initial project concept through system implementation and support once it is in production. If necessary resources are not available within current staff, ADAM will work with you to locate those support resources elsewhere. If you have any questions, would like to discuss our services, or need help please contact Henry Quintal or Art Henry.
In November 2007, the ADAM Group moved from Edison Ave. to the Central Maine Commerce Center . On January 7th , Henry Quintal became the ADAM Systems Group Manager. Art Henry will stay active and be available to assist agencies with any issues, service needs or support. Henry Quintal and the ADAM management team will provide the day to day guidance for the group, with an emphasis on quality service and customer support.
