Announcing the 9th Annual Maine Digital Government Summit
By, Greg McNeal, Acting CIO, State of Maine
Mark your calendar for Tuesday, October 11th, 2011 for Maine’s ninth annual Digital Government Summit being held at the Augusta Civic Center. I encourage all OIT employees to attend. The Honorable Governor Paul LePage is scheduled to give opening remarks at 9:00AM , followed by keynote speaker Dan Thurmon, author and peak performance coach. Deb Neuman, Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Economic and Community Development, will be the lunch-time speaker. And there will be many other interesting speakers and sessions.
Please register today by following the link below. Remember to obtain your supervisor’s approval as appropriate.
The Maine Digital Government Summit is the technology event of the year. The Summit provides technology professionals an excellent opportunity to meet with vendors and colleagues from throughout the State, with a strict focus on the unique challenges we face here in Maine. As important as technology advancements are, we must focus on employing enterprise technology solutions wisely that will result in an efficient and effective transformation in the business delivery of state government services. With very limited budgets we need to develop public/private partnerships that allow us to take advantage of the emerging trends, and implement well planned solutions that meet stated agency business requirements. We look forward to another successful summit where partnerships can be structured that will continue to move Maine in the positive direction of transforming how state government delivers services.
The summit agenda is stacked with timely technical topics such as unified communications, mobile technologies, managing social media, enterprise data sharing, operating like a business, desktop and application virtualizing trends, cloud solutions, and succession planning. To view the detailed agenda, please go to Government Technology’s website http://events.govtech.com/events/mainedgs2011/agenda . A slight departure from tradition is that the OIT MERIT awards for individual, manager, and team will be moved from the Digital Government Summit to a different venue; an OIT staff meeting to be held later in the fall of 2011.
I encourage you to attend and look forward to seeing you there.
