Home > FAQ's > Tax and Rent Refund FAQ's > FAQ Detail 04. Am I eligible for a property tax or rent refund under the general portion of the program?
To be eligible for the general portion of the program you must have been a resident of Maine for all of 2008, maintained a homestead in Maine for all of 2008 and lived in your homestead at least six months during 2008. Your total 2008 household income must have been not more than: $61,400 for a person who lived alone; OR, $81,850 for a person who lived with a spouse and/or dependent(s); AND Your 2008 property tax must have been more than 4% of your 2008 household income; OR, the rent you paid in 2008 must have been more than 20% of your 2008 household income.
