Maine Apprenticeship Committee (MAC) Meeting Oct. 28, 2009 Minutes

Members present: D. Berry, P. Dionne, J. Napolitano, K. Grambow Quorum NOT established

Others present: Gene Ellis, Dir. Of Apprenticeship Standards, Anita Dunham, Skowhegan CareerCenter Manager (by phone), Jill Houser, Region 1 Director, USDOL/ETA/OA, Garret Oswald, Exec. Dir. Maine Jobs Council, Richard Lee, SAA-VEP

Meeting called to order at 9:00 by Chair D. Berry

Introductions:

Motion to accept Minutes of July, 2009 meeting: Phil, 2nd: Kate To be sent for e-mail vote

Motion for approval of New Programs up to 6/30/09: Phil, 2nd: Kate To be sent for e-mail vote

Motion for approval of Program Completions up to 6/30/09: Phil, 2nd: Kate To be sent for e-mail vote

Director’s Report: Director submitted daily activity log for MAC member review and questions; discussed PY10 budget; presented charts showing registrations over last four year period; updated tuition reimbursement numbers for PY10 to date ($17,000+/-). Director reported on activities around modernization grant. Draft Statute changes have been sent to OA for comment prior to going to legislature. It is noted this is Kate’s last meeting as she is moving and will be unable to attend meetings. This leaves the MAC short 3 Public, and 1 Management members.

The Director is asked to put together a list of potential members to solicit for interest in membership. Director will ask Bob Bourgault to be on Review Committee (replacing Kate) with Don Berry and Tuesdi Woodworth.

Discussion re: MJC meeting Oct. 30th and MAP letter of July, 2009 on agenda

J. Houser reported ESAC will meet in Portland the week of May 24th, 2010. She will be presenting apprenticeship info to a Labor Commissioners meeting in Boston Oct. 29th.

Richard Lee gave handout of new Veterans benefits as of Oct. 1, 2009.
