Maine Public Advocate Releases New 22-Page Ratewatcher Telecom Guide

September 2, 2009

Augusta, Maine –  Cost-cutting has become one of the Public Advocate’s priorities – a fact that has caused the Public Advocate to provide the new Ratewatcher Telecom Guide online only.   Nevertheless, the new Guide is bigger than ever and full of helpful specific information that consumers need to choose the best telephone, mobile, and Internet services in the State of Maine.  “The Ratewatcher is the only source of unbiased name-brand comparisons for these important services upon which virtually every person in Maine relies”, said Wayne Jortner, Senior Counsel to the Public Advocate. “Those interested in reading about our current views concerning FairPoint will not be disappointed” added Jortner.

Consumers who wish to receive an electronic version of the Ratewatcher by email upon the release of each issue should send their email address to deborah.a.tondreau@maine.gov with “Ratewatcher” in the subject line.  Customers with no access to Internet service or a printer may request that a black and white copy be mailed to them.

The new Ratewatcher provides up-to-date information about everything from plain old telephone service to the latest free and low-cost services available from high-tech providers like Google.  “Even if you’re not planning to change your telephone, mobile, or Internet service right now, the new Ratewatcher Telecom Guide will show you how to use new free services and save money on the ones you already use” said Dick Davies, Maine’s Public Advocate.

The 22-page, full-color Ratewatcher Telecom Guide, is available free of charge to all Maine residents.  To request a black and white copy, call 287-2445, send an email message to: deborah.a.tondreau@maine.gov or write to the Public Advocate at, SHS 112, Augusta, Maine  04333.  If you have Internet access, simply click on the pdf version of the Ratewatcher at www.maine.gov/meopa and print it out in full color. An ADA-compliant online version is also available there.
