Commissioner Hilton is a graduate of Roanoke College with a B S. in Biology, and also holds a M.S. in Geoenviromental Studies from Shippensburg University. She has been providing consulting services to Maine municipalities and state government in the areas of community planning and transportation planning for over 20 years. Her municipal work has included community development, natural resource inventories, comprehensive planning and the development of land use regulations. She has provided planning assistance to towns around the state including towns near the fringes of the LURC jurisdiction, such as Willimantic, Calais, St. Albans, New Vineyard and Dexter. Additionally, Ms. Hilton served as a consultant to the town of Greenville in the development of their state-approved comprehensive plan and land use regulations. Ms. Hilton’s transportation planning assistance to the State of Maine includes a study for the Department of Conservation on the inter-model transportation network serving the forest products industry. Ms. Hilton has served on the town of Starks planning board as chairperson and member for well over a decade, and served two years on the board of assessors. Ms. Hilton also serves on the Board of Directors of the Maine Association of Planners. Ms. Hilton has been involved in farming most of her life. Her family’s farm operation includes commercial forestry and hay production, and adaptive reuse of farm buildings and land for commercial storage and recreational uses. Her farm serves as a facility for several non-profit youth equestrian organizations. In 1999, her family was honored to receive the Somerset County Conservation District Outstanding Woodlot Owners of the Year award. Her experience in land use and transportation planning, governmental consulting, and as a farm and woodlot owner makes her a valuable asset to the Commission. |
