The Commission has adopted rules which provide for affordable housing opportunities within its jurisdiction. The rules give the Commission the authority to reduce minimum lot size and other dimensional requirements for the purpose of providing affordable housing. Simultaneously with the promulgation of the rules, the Commission adopted (following public comment but not through rulemaking) a general policy that describes affordable housing needs in its jurisdiction, including the housing market and income trends as well as a range of related issues, and presents broad goal and policy statements dealing with these issues.
The affordable housing rules take effect April 19, 2007.
