Senator Mitchell and Senator Marraché to Host Oakland Energy Forum
September 24, 2008
AUGUSTA—Senate Majority Leader Libby Mitchell, D-Kennebec County, and Senator Lisa Marraché, D-Kennebec County will host an energy conservation forum at the Messalonskee High School Performing Arts Center in Oakland Tuesday, September 30th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The forum will feature a panel of energy experts who will talk about a variety of services, programs, and safety tips that can help Maine people stay warm and safe this winter.
Representatives from Maine State Housing Authority, Efficiency Maine, Fabian Oil, the Oakland Fire Department, Kennebec Valley Community Action Program (KVCAP), and a local bank offering energy improvement loans are scheduled to attend.
KVCAP will also be on hand to talk about LIHEAP (Low Income Heating and Energy Assistance Program) and discuss eligibility.
Senator Mitchell and Senator Marraché will also bring “Circuit Breaker” applications with them. Circuit Breaker is the common name given to the Maine Property Tax and Rent Refund Program, which provides tax refunds to over 200,000 Maine households. Senator Mitchell added, “The average Circuit Breaker refund is a couple hundred dollars. This is money people could use to help pay their oil bill or make some energy improvements.”
The Oakland energy forum will be the 17th energy forum Democratic Senators have sponsored all over Maine since early August.
