Walmart “Wildcats” Win Friendly Competition to Support Ronald MacDonald House
February 28, 2008
AUGUSTA—A number of legislators and staff today competed in a fundraiser for the Ronald MacDonald House at the Augusta Walmart, sponsored in part by the Maine Farm Bureau. The competitors had a fixed amount of time to canvass the Augusta store for Maine made food products and put those items in their shopping cart.
The Walmart Wildcats—a team made up of Senate President Beth Edmonds, Senate Majority Leader Libby Mitchell, Representative Kim Silsby, Representative Deb Simpson, and staffer Lisa Cote—found the most Maine made products and the biggest variety in the allotted time and were declared the winner. The Wildcats faced off against another legislative team, which included members like Senator John Nutting, Senator Peter Mills, Senator Deb Plowman, and Representative Don Pilon.
Commenting on their victory, Senate Majority Leader Mitchell said, “It was a lot of fun to participate in the fundraiser, and I am glad that we were able to help contribute and raise awareness to the needs of the Ronald MacDonald House.”
Staffer Lisa Cote said the team’s strategy to winning was zeroing in on Maine made products like Wyman’s Frozen Berries, Giffords Ice Cream, and Oakhurst Milk.
All of the items will be donated to the Ronald MacDonald House.
