RE:           Call for Teacher Applicants - Congress in the Classroom

This Informational Letter announces to middle school and high school teachers the highly acclaimed Congress in the Classroom program.

Congress in the Classroom is a national, award-winning education program now in its 19th year. Developed and sponsored by The Dirksen Congressional Center, the program is dedicated to the exchange of ideas and information on teaching about Congress.

The program is designed for high school or middle school teachers who teach U.S. history, government, civics, political science, or social studies.  This year, Congress in the Classroom will feature a broad overview of Congress with special attention on the mid-year elections of 2010.  Two types of workshops will be offered: those focused on recent research and scholarship about Congress; and those geared to pedagogy and instruction about the federal legislature.

Forty teachers will be selected to take part in the program. All online applications must be received no later than April 15, 2010. The Dirksen Congressional Center will notify individuals of their decisions by April 30, 2010. The 2010 program will be held Monday, July 26 - Thursday, July 29, 2010 at Embassy Suites, East Peoria, Illinois.
