SUBJECT: Transportation Routing Software

The Department of Education announces that it has entered into an agreement with CORE Education and Consulting Solutions and Transfinder Corporation to provide school bus routing software to Maine school units. CORE will manage the project and develop the web-enabled platform for school units to tap into Transfinder’s software. Transfinder is headquartered in Schenectady, New York and provides routing software to school units throughout the United States. Their website can be found at www.transfinder.com

The process of building a software package that integrates with the existing State information technology is underway. Pilot sites have been chosen and as the infrastructure becomes available more units will be able to access this tool. This product includes a complete routing solution including daily routing, fleet management and field trip software. We expect the pilot program to continue until late November 2009. At that point, the software and infrastructure will be properly tested and will become more widely available. There will be no cost to the school unit for the software or for the annual maintenance agreements. The school units will be expected to make appropriate personnel and resources available for initial and future trainings.
