Gendron, Commissioner DATE: March 31, 2008 SUBJECT: Nominations for 2008-2009 School Nurse of the Year The Maine Department of Education invites nominations for Maine’s School Nurse of the Year 2008-2009. The qualifications for nomination include:
The School Nurse of the Year is an excellent way to honor not only one individual but to honor the many excellent school nurses providing quality services to Maine students. It is a way to celebrate the dedication and professionalism of all our school nurses. Involvement of the school nurse in the application process is strongly recommended. The School Nurse of the Year will be required to participate in any publicity event as part of the celebration. As she/he will be viewed by her/his peers as a model school nurse, she/he may receive requests for consultation and advice. Her/his application will be submitted as Maine’s candidate for National School Nurse of the Year through the NASN. All nominees and the finalist will be honored at the Fall school nurse’s conference and again at the Blaine House Tea on School Nurse Day in May. The application procedure and criteria can be found at www.maine.gov/education/sh/08sny_guidelines.rtf . The application is due June 1, 2008. It is recommended that the nominated school nurse be involved in the application process.
