Home > Rules & Legislation > Letters from the Commissioner > Informational Letter 058 Distance Education Survey Information NeededINFORMATIONAL LETTER NO: 58 TO: Superintendents, and Principals of High Schools Please complete and submit this report no later than December 23, 2007. The Department is requesting that each School Administrative Unit (SAU) complete and submit the attached Distance Education Survey. The purpose of this survey is to collect distance education information from SAUs, which will then be used to review and assess the distance education opportunities available to Maine high school students, as required by State legislation. In this survey you are asked to provide information for the 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 school years about distance education courses administered both online and via videoconferencing sources (e.g. ATM, Polycom). Please note that some questions ask only about online courses and not about videoconferencing courses. This is a result of the Maine Department of Education having previously collected some of the necessary information regarding student use of videoconferencing technologies. We ask that you download the attached copy of the survey, consult colleagues (guidance counselor, ATM coordinator, teacher leaders), who may have information about distance education that you do not have but need to complete the survey, complete the survey on the computer using the electronic form provided, save the electronic copy with your SAU name added to the document name, and then submit your report in one of two ways, either (1) e-mail your report to Sarah Wintle at swintle@usm.maine.edu , or (2) print off a copy of your report and mail it to: CEPARE, c/o Sarah Wintle, 99 School Street, Gorham, ME 04038. Thank you in advance for your assistance with this important information-gathering activity. Attachment: http://www.maine.gov/education/edletrs/2008/ilet/08ilet058survey.pdf If you have difficulty with submitting the survey, please choose one of the following two options: 1. Complete the distance education survey electronically, then print off a copy. 2. Print the distance education survey and then complete it by hand. Once you have a completed hard copy of the survey, please mail or fax it to: CEPARE Should you have any questions, please contact either Sarah Wintle at 1-888-800-5044 or via e-mail at mailto:swintle@usm.maine.edu or contact David Patterson at 624-6779 or via e-mail at mailto:david.patterson@maine.gov
