SUBJECT: DRC v. MDOE Corrective Action Plan: Mandatory Training

The Disability Rights Center (DRC) v. Maine Department of Education (MDOE) Corrective Action Plan of March, 2010 requires that all school administrative units receive training in the provision of services for blind and visually impaired (BVI) students. This training will be provided in a one-hour webcast scheduled for Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 10:00. Special education directors and CDS site directors or their designees must attend. Directors who are unable to attend at this time may access the archived version, which will be available on the General Supervision System Team’s (GSST) website after April 28th. Participation through the archived version must be completed by July 1, 2011.

The Department is committed to the goal of ensuring that all BVI students have properly developed and implemented IEPs and IFSPs as required by federal and state special education laws and regulations. To that end, additional training opportunities and guidance will be forthcoming.
