TO: Superintendents of Schools, School Principals, and School Counselors National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association, will be celebrated from February 7-11, 2011 to focus public attention on the unique contribution professional school counselors have in school systems, and the impact they have on students. National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a future. Professional school counselors are certified, experienced educators with a master’s degree in guidance and counseling. They work with students, staff, parents and the community to support students becoming college, career and citizenship ready. Governor Paul LePage will be issuing a proclamation recognizing School Counselor Week in Maine. During this week we encourage you to recognize the role school counselors and the implementation of a PK-12 comprehensive counseling program play in the educational process of all students as they meet the challenges of the 21st century. As part of the celebration, schools are encouraged to reach out to their communities to inform them of the services provided by school counselors for students and parents, and highlight student success stories. For more information contact: Shelley Reed, 624-6637 or shelley.reed@maine.gov .
