SUBJECT: Parent Organizations Training

Purpose:  As schools continue to address all areas of excellence in teaching and learning it is vital that parent organizations be given opportunities to learn how they can best assist in making school environments safe, academically successful and healthy. On Saturday, November 20, 2010 from 8AM-3PM parents will have the opportunity to participate in a Wizard of Oz theme event at the Sable Oaks Marriott in Portland.   “We’re Not in Kansas Anymore: Looking Behind the Curtain of School Health” will allow parents to gain understanding regarding:

  • Three key policies: Bullying Prevention, Wellness, and Tobacco
  • How to be a positive participant in school policy implementation plans
  • The eight components of a coordinated approach to school health
  • Positive communication with school administrators

Please encourage any parent organization in your district to attend this event (e.g., PTO, PTSA, PTG, Boosters, etc...).  Maine PTA has sent registration brochures to their affiliates. A copy of the registration brochure can be found at www.mainecshp.com
