RE: Audit Deadline Reminder

I am writing to remind all of you of the upcoming deadline that is part of your statutorily required annual audit for fiscal year 2010.  Per Title 20-A, §6051, Subsection 4, an initial report must be submitted to my office and contain the following information:

  • A written determination of whether or not proper budgetary controls are in place;
  • A written determination of whether or not the annual financial data submitted to the department is correct, including submission of an audited reconciliation of the annual financial data prepared and certified by the auditor; and
  • A written determination as to whether the school administrative unit has complied with applicable provisions of the Essential Programs and Services Funding Act.

Please forward this letter to the audit firm responsible for completing your annual audit.  This report should be submitted to:

                                    Joanne Allen, School Finance Coordinator
                                    Maine Department of Education
                                    23 State House Station
                                    Augusta, ME 04333

If you have questions or need additional information regarding this report, please contact Tonya Perkins, Auditor I at 624-6865 or via email at tonya.perkins@maine.gov

At this time, I would also like to remind you that the entire FY 2010 annual audit is due for submission to my office by December 31, 2010.  Please discuss with your audit firm the progress made to date toward this deadline, and if you anticipate that it cannot be met, please contact Tonya Perkins regarding the process for requesting an extension.
