INFORMATIONAL LETTER: 20
POLICY CODE: DBE
TO: Superintendents of Schools
FROM: Angela Faherty, Ph.D., Acting Commissioner
DATE: August 25, 2010
SUBJECT: Federal Education Jobs Bill Allocations and Workbook
The Department has posted the allocations for which each SAU is eligible to apply on our Recovery web pages (http://www.maine.gov/education/recovery/edujobs.html ). The workbook is to be completed by each school administrative unit (SAU). The workbook includes a cover page to be signed by the superintendent, a budget to be completed for FY 2011 and/or FY 2012 (depending on when the SAU anticipates the funds will be spent), and the jobs to be retained or created. Please complete the workbook pages, print a copy, and sign the cover page. The signed, completed workbook must be mailed to Jaci Holmes, Federal State Legislative Liaison, 23 State House Station, Augusta, Maine 04333 by September 10, 2010.
Governor Baldacci has echoed President Obama’s call for transparency in reporting on the use of these funds, including use of a website so that all citizens may see how they are used. These funds come with restrictions and there will be strict reporting requirements for states and local educational agencies (SAUs). This program is subject to the same reporting requirements as funds within Section 1512 of SFSF. The reporting for these funds will begin with this October’s ARRA reporting cycle. We will add a new drop down for this fund for the monthly ARRA Reporting through MEDMS.
We have added a link to the USDE guidance on our state website on the Recovery Act page, http://www.maine.gov/education/recovery/edujobs.html For more information, please call Jim Rier, Director for Finance and Operations, at 624-6794 or Jaci Holmes, Federal State Legislative Liaison, at 624-6669.
