The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention develops and delivers services to preserve, protect and promote the health and well-being of the citizens of Maine. The mission of the HIV, STD and Viral Hepatitis Program in the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention is to stop the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, viral hepatitis and HIV, to reduce illness and death, and to promote the health and well-being of people with or at risk for these diseases. The STD Program has a current vacancy in Augusta.

Job Duties

As a Public Health Educator III in the HIV, STD and Viral Hepatitis Program you will be responsible for supporting the STD Program through oversight of the statewide daily field operations and case management of the following reportable conditions: HIV, syphilis, chlamydia and gonorrhea. You will be responsible for the daily management of the STD data system, weekly disease reporting to the federal CDC, and serve as the primary contact for disease intervention specialists in Portland, Bangor and Lewiston. Interested candidates should have experience working as a disease intervention specialist (DIS) or with disease case follow up, working with diverse populations, and providing culturally competent services, communicating with the public about sexual and other behavioral risks, working and communicating with medical providers, and have the ability to prioritize and maintain confidentiality. The successful candidate will be able to work effectively in a team setting, have excellent people skills, have the ability to prioritize and organize workload, and be able to handle multiple tasks concurrently.

Requirements

A Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Community Health Education, Health Education, or Behavioral Sciences AND two (2) years experience in community or health education program planning, development, implementation, and evaluation. Preference will be given to applicants with disease intervention or case follow up activities in the field of infectious disease (preferably STD specific). Directly related experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
