Agency Information

The Department of Health and Human Services provides supportive, preventive, protective, public health and intervention services that protects the public health and assists our customers in meeting their needs; and that assist families in providing for the developmental, health and safety needs of their children. The Office of Aging & Disability Services (OADS) within DHHS oversees a broad range of community services for older persons and persons with disabilities; home and community-based services; long term care services; a comprehensive system of support for individuals with intellectual, physical and developmental disabilities; brain injury services; consumer-directed services; quality assurance and quality improvement services including independent assessment services; adult protective services; and public guardianship and/or conservatorship services for individuals who are incapacitated and least restrictive alternatives are not available. The OADS is designated as the state unit on aging for planning purposes and administration of programs under the Older Americans Act. OADS fulfills its mission through: Prevention, Intervention, Care Management, Community Partnerships, Policy and Information Services.



Job Duties

The primary responsibility of this position is to coordinate the development of program and resources for aging adults, adults with brain injury and adults with physical disabilities. Responsibilities include collecting, compiling and analyzing data in order to develop resource inventory and plans to meet the needs of these adults. The successful applicant will be working closely with case managers, providers and other professionals in negotiating and developing individual service structure and programs to ensure the needs of the consumers of Maine are met. This will include maintaining resources to meet the changing needs of consumers, troubleshooting classification and eligibility issues, assisting providers with claim issues and adjusting rates as needed. The successful applicant needs to either have or quickly develop a good working knowledge of applicable Medicaid guidelines. You will demonstrate an understanding of how to address consumers' programming needs in contractual and budgetary terms, and be able to negotiate with provider agencies in order to meet those needs. Other typical duties include, recruiting, interviewing and screening potential service providers and consulting with agencies on funding mechanisms.

Requirements

A Masters Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Special Education, or related field and one (1) year experience with developmental disabilities, autism, Long-term care services or a directly related human services field -OR- a Baccalaureate Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Special Education, or related field and four (4) years professional experience in developmental disabilities, autism or a directly related human services field. Experience cannot be substituted for education requirement in this classification.
