Agency Information

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) provides supportive, preventive, protective, public health and intervention services that protect the public health and assist our customers in meeting their needs; and assists families in providing for the developmental, health and safety needs of their children. DHHS strives to provide these programs and services while respecting the rights and preferences of individuals and families.

The Division of Licensing and Regulatory Services is responsible for licensing medical and long- term care facilities, assisted living, residential care, private non-medical institutions ("PNMI"s), mental health service providers, substance abuse agencies, and programs and services to children. The Division is also responsible for regulation of health care facilities and providers under the Certificate of Need Act, the Hospital Cooperation Act, and laws pertaining to Continuing Care Retirement Communities.


Job Duties

As a Public Health Nurse Supervisor you will direct and oversee the day-to-day survey and certification activities of long term care facilities. Responsibilities include the scheduling and management of surveyors and the management of federal performance standards to ensure compliance with CMS requirements. Supervision is exercised over a professional, technical, and clerical staff.

Requirements

To qualify, your background must include three (3) years experience in public health nursing including experience in a supervisory capacity and a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.

Licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse as issued by the State Board of Nursing and a valid Maine driver's license.

In order to properly evaluate your experience, you must respond to the following performance areas in your cover letter.

1. Please describe past experiences that demonstrate your ability to manage and motivate a statewide survey staff including professional, technical and clerical staff.
2. Please describe your understanding of the role of the licensing function in protecting the health and safety of consumers by balancing enforcement and technical assistance activities.
3. Please describe your experience with various computer software management systems. Include a description of any experience with federal and state systems such as ASPEN.
