Senator Mayo: Maine Bearing Disproportionate Share of Base Cuts

“I am sorely disappointed with the closure list released today. Maine is bearing a disproportionate share of these cuts, losing almost all of our military facilities and almost one quarter of the net civilian job losses in the United States. It is not only for economic reasons that I am opposed to these recommendations, but on strategic and military grounds as well. Brunswick Naval Air Station is the only active duty military air field north of New York, and this location makes it uniquely able to aid in the defense of the continental US and the deployment of men and materiel to Europe and the Middle East. I will work will work closely with our Federal elected officials and do everything I can to prevent these proposed cuts from coming to fruition.”
