AUGUSTA, ME – Patrick Carson, P.A.-C., accepted a conditional license from the Maine Board of Licensure in Medicine in a Consent Agreement signed June 12, 2012. Mr. Carson admitted that the Board has sufficient evidence from which it could reasonably find he engaged in unprofessional conduct. Mr. Carson must undergo substance monitoring for the next five years. In addition, Mr. Carson must have a physician monitor observe him in his medical practice. He was also fined $2,000. Mr. Carson practices in Portland.
Mr. Carson previously underwent voluntary substance monitoring as a participant in the Maine Medical Professionals Health Program (MPHP). The MPHP supports medical professionals of Maine by providing confidential compassionate assistance, monitoring and advocacy to participants diagnosed with substance use. The MPHP notified the Board that Mr. Carson tested positive for metabolites of alcohol in August and October 2011, in violation of his voluntary contract with the program. Mr. Carson stated that the August finding was the result of accidental alcohol ingestion. However, Mr. Carson admitted to a relapse and alcohol use while on vacation in October.
