Maine History Told by Mainers

Mid-Coast Maine Summers

Submitted July 9, 2004 by E.J. Maynard

Since I entered this world in the Augusta Hospital in 1981 I feel truely blessed to have grown up in a state with as much beauty and character as Maine. Growing up in the midcoast area surrounding the Pemaquid peninsula allowed me to enjoy some of the simple pleasures of summer living that most people I have met out of state rarely get to experience.

Of all my memories some of my most cherished are of the 4th of July celebration/parade in the great village of Round Pond. From playing in the infamous "Round Pond Philharmonic" in one of the most underrated parades in the country to taking a skiff ride out to the middle of the harbour for a swim in the sun warmed water with my good friends the fourth never failed to deliver good times. When people ask me about the cold winters we face and the lack of "anything to do" I always answer with a heartfelt statement of the priceless memories my Maine summers have given me.
